Big Orange Family Campaign Jumps to 64 Percent Participation—No. 1 in the SEC

In its seventh year, the Big Orange Family Campaign set a record of 64 percent participation of faculty and staff members giving back to UT, surpassing 2019 by two points and reaching the highest participation in the Southeastern Conference.

“This is a great example of the Volunteer spirit making a difference on our campus,” said Chip Bryant, vice chancellor for advancement. “I am so very proud of our faculty and staff who gave their all to motivate one another and rallied around the institution to set this new record for giving.”

Thirty-five departments and units had 100 percent participation (see list below). Another nine departments and units had over 90 percent participation.

When supporting UT, donors can designate their gifts to any college, department, program, scholarship, or established gift fund that they choose.

This once again proved an appealing prospect as faculty and staff donors were able to support the causes they feel passionate about and work with every day, said Lauren Herbstritt, director of advancement for annual giving.

“The campaign committee thought 62 percent was a reasonable goal, but the campus community really came through,” Herbstritt said. “I am so honored to work with more than 150 volunteers who worked to make this campaign a success.”

Jada Huskey, research director at the Tickle College of Engineering, headed up team leaders in 12 departments.

“I was inspired to see how involved the entire Tickle College of Engineering became,” Huskey said. “Terry Hazen, Governor’s Chair for Environmental Biotechnology, and I offered a challenge match for our staff training fund. Our faculty and staff stepped up with support for the staff training fund and numerous areas in the college and across campus!”
