Each year, faculty and staff inspire the Volunteer family through their ever-increasing participation in the Big Orange Family Campaign. The campaign’s ninth year boasts a record 65 percent of university employees who supported Rocky Top through their donations.
UT regularly leads the Southeastern Conference for faculty and staff giving, and university employees continued to inspire our region this year with their generosity.
The Volunteer spirit means stepping forward in leadership and service,” said Chip Bryant, vice chancellor for advancement at UT. “UT’s employees show up year after year, demonstrating the strength of our campus character in impressive numbers during the Big Orange Family Campaign. I am inspired yet again to see how our campus has lived out that spirit through their philanthropy.”
Seventy-four campus units and departments reached or exceeded the campus campaign goal of 65 percent. Of that number, there was a milestone 38 campus teams reaching 100 percent participation (see list below).
Together, 3,318 UT employees gave during this year’s campaign. They are supporting scholarships for students in financial need, academic programming and excellence, our arts and culture programs, and improved campus facilities.

The McClung Museum was one such team, and the museum’s executive director, Claudio Gómez, was heartened to see such leadership generosity from his team.
“I am frequently inspired by how the museum team rallies to support our students and campus community, and during the Big Orange Family Campaign, we have done it again,” said Gómez. “It is truly a pleasure to watch how one employee’s giving can motivate others to do the same. It also sends a message to the greater public that the Volunteer family is invested in this university and its success.”
Lauren Herbstritt, director of advancement for annual giving, expressed her appreciation for the thousands of employees who have supported the university and its efforts to improve the lives of students and communities throughout the state.
“Together, 3,318 UT employees gave during this year’s campaign,” said Herbstritt. “They are supporting scholarships for students in financial need, academic programming and excellence, our arts and culture programs, and improved campus facilities. I’m already inspired to accomplish more together next year!”
