2022–23 Planned Giving Impact Report

Dear Friends,

It is with deep appreciation that I present you with the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, 2022–2023 Planned Giving Impact Report. My colleagues and I at UT are both humbled and inspired by the countless planned gift commitments we received as a means of advancing the university forward now and in the years to come.

Below you’ll have an opportunity to gain a better understanding of some of the planned gifts that were made by donors, some just like you, to support the university that they had, or continue to have, such a special connection to. While these donors share a passion for UT, their philanthropic goals certainly differ. We feel honored to share their stories with you and hope that, through storytelling, we’re able to underscore the important role legacy giving plays on our students, faculty, and the rest of our campus community.

I sincerely hope the content of this report reinforces how grateful we are for our loyal donors who have chosen to include UT in their estate plans. If you haven’t yet and feel inclined, feel free to share your commitment with us, anonymously or otherwise.

Thank you for lighting the way for other Vols through your planned gift.

With gratitude,

Michelle Geller
Senior Director, Office of Gift Planning

Charitable Gift Planning Options

The donors profiled throughout this report made their legacy gifts to UT using a variety of planned giving vehicles. While there are planned gifts that can provide donors with tax benefits and/or life income, the most common types of planned gift the university receives are from charitable bequests documented in wills, living trusts, retirement accounts, and life insurance policies.Bequests may specify:

  • A specific amount of cash
  • A percentage of an individual’s total estate
  • The remaining value of the estate after all other bequests and/or debts have been paid

Regardless of the type of gift vehicle used, legacy gifts make an impact on the University of Tennessee and its ability to advance its mission on campus and beyond.

Thank you for bestowing a legacy for the students, faculty, and staff at the University of Tennessee.

Your commitment ensures a better future for our community by providing quality education with access to dedicated faculty, programs, leading-edge equipment, and resources.

We appreciate you making your legacy part of UT’s history, now and forever.
