Honor the legacy of Pope and Jan Thomas by giving to a scholarship endowment supporting students from Lexington, Tennessee, and Morristown, Tennessee, attending UT.

Pope (’52) and Jan (’53) Thomas met at UT Knoxville as undergraduates on a blind date, which led to their marriage of nearly 69 years. While at UT, Jan was an active member of ADPi sorority and Pope was the yearbook business manager, 1st Sgt. ROTC, the basketball team manager, and a member of SAE fraternity.

They had 3 children, Jim (Brooks) Thomas of Beaufort, South Carolina, Laura Maupin of Lexington, and Rob (’83) (Lisa) Thomas of Lexington; 8 grandchildren, Michael Bohan, Jonathan Thomas (’12), Taylor (’13, ’18) (Katy (’19)) Thomas, Kate (Eric) Hudspeth, Amelia (Nick) Louwers, Wes Maupin, Leigh Woodrow, and Matt Maupin; and 5 great-grandchildren, Ida Woodrow, Walker Woodrow, Linden Thomas, Nora Thomas, and Owen Hudspeth. Their family has started the Pope and Jan Thomas UT Knoxville Alumni Tri-Star Scholarship Endowment to honor their incredible legacy.
