The Law Women organization at the UT College of Law has achieved an extraordinary milestone, receiving $6,720—the most funding ever—from donors for their scholarship program through VOLstarter, UT’s unique crowdfunding platform for student, faculty, and staff initiatives.

For 19 years, the group has been dedicated to supporting women to pursue careers in law-related fields. This recent success allows Law Women to offer an additional public interest scholarship. With new funding, Law Women now boasts a total of three public interest scholarships and a special Law Women Commitment Award.

“We’re thrilled about the new support,” says the organization’s executive board. “It’s our biggest achievement yet, and it means even more students can pursue their goals.”

Law Women, the largest student organization at the College of Law, has existed at UT for more than 50 years. The groundwork laid by previous leaders and their relationships with supporters has augmented the organization’s growth, with many gifts this year coming from past donors. They recognize that this fundraising achievement builds on years of commitment and connection from past and current donors.

“We wouldn’t be able to provide these incredible scholarship opportunities without the unwavering support of our community, donors, and students,” the board shared.

Law Women expanded their already broad network by utilizing VOLstarter, which allowed them to access a wider audience and streamline the donation process. They also contacted more than 80 potential donors, from alumni to professors to law firms, and hosted fundraising events like their 19th Annual Chili Cook-Off. The event celebrated the organization’s community and strengthened donor relationships by connecting attendees with the students supported by contributions.

The Law Women organization exemplifies how a thriving community depends on proactive engagement and a strong mission. The Law Women organization continues to expand its legacy of empowerment and opportunity for women at UT College of Law thanks to the power of their community and increased outreach.
